A small part in a familiar book

Hop on Pop words: read a little part together

You don’t need your child to read every word. Choose three words with familiar sounds, practise them with help, then let your child take those words while you read the rest of your own book.

Bring your own copy of Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss. This is an independent ReadPals companion with six selected words, not the book or a complete word list.

1. Choose a small reading part

Choose one group only if your child knows its letter sounds and is beginning to join sounds into words. These three words are their part; you read everything else.

Neither group fits yet? Read the book aloud together. Your child can listen, point or join in when they want to. There is no need to finish a practice set.

About these book words

All six words appear in Reading Is Fundamental’s Hop on Pop word list. Editions differ, so check your own pages before offering a word to your child. The cards use ReadPals material; no book pages or illustrations are reproduced.

For a different familiar book, try our Go, Dog. Go! word companion. If joining sounds is still difficult, the parent blending guide offers a smaller starting point.
